The cold molded sailboat (CM20) for the handicapped sailing program at Challenge Mountain takes shape as students install the strip planking. This layer will be followed by two layers of veneer. The utility launch’s planking is completed and work will soon begin on her decks and interior.

Thanks to the help of boat designers Fred Ford and Ken Workinger the third quarter composite boat building project to benefit the handicapped sailing program at Challenge Mountain is underway. Tiara Yachts has very generously supplied the Great Lakes Boat Building School with donated computer generated and produced station moulds that will be used in building this exciting strip planked, cold molded sailboat. The boat school’s Traditional Boat Building quarter will begin on January 3, 2008 with the lofting of the lines of this utitlity launch designed by Nelson Zimmer. Using plans purchased from Wooden Boat’s Fifty Wooden Boats, the class will build this beautiful “green” boat using an electric motor and system provided by the Elco Electric Launch Company. Final interior work will be part of the course schedule in the boat school’s fourth quarter Yacht Joinery class taking place in the summer of 2008.
