Bachelor Degree Program

GREAT NEWS from EASTERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY for GLBBS STUDENTS!

EMU

With its status as a vocational school, GLBBS students would normally not be able to receive credit recognition from a traditional college but thanks to community colleges and their establishment of articulation agreements, this is now possible.  This is how North Central Michigan College (NCMC) in Petoskey now offers a full year of credit for the GLBBS program toward an Associate degree in Applied Science.

Now, thanks to Dr. Dan Fields, a professor in the School of Engineering Technology at Eastern Michigan University (EMU), there is great news for students wishing to continue on for a Bachelor of Science degree.  Through their articulation agreement with NCMC, an Associate degree may be transferred into EMU.  It permits a third year of courses to be taken at NCMC, with the final year taken at EMU in their Applied Technology program.

The Applied  Technology is a Bachelor of Science degree program, and is developed to best fit the student’s career goals.  The student works out a program of study with an EMU advisor in the School of Engineering Technology.  It is possible to complete the final year at EMU through on-line courses.

This should particularly have appeal for GLBBS students who are thinking about continuing on into naval architecture and design careers.

Note: EMU has articulation agreements with several other community colleges in Ohio and Michigan.

Advising notes:

• Student must be prepared to take advanced math courses, up to MTH 123, Trigonometry.

Depending on placement and previous coursework, this could result in three additional semester

courses. MTH 123 must be complete by Semester VI in order to enroll in PHY 210. An equivalent

two credit course, MATH 107, is available through EMU and will count toward the major. This

would eliminate the additional three credits.

• Students interested in the Bachelor of Science option should be in touch with EMU’s advisor from the beginning.
