By POPULAR DEMAND!!!
This summer GLBBS is offering three new workshops to introduce the concepts and techniques used in traditional wooden boat building. The first in the series is a three-day class that will focus on framing and planking methods. The second three-day class will give the basics of the important lofting process, followed by a class in advanced lofting techniques. These classes are open to all, with no experience needed or tools required. Details of each class are outlined below.
INTRODUCTION TO WOODEN BOAT BUILDING

INTRODUCTION TO LOFTING
Lofting is one of the most important and least understood processes in wooden boat building. This three-day class will expel the mysteries many novices confront when first faced with starting a boat building project. Each student will loft a small, round bottom boat using the same techniques designed for the GLBBS vocational program. You can take the lofting home with you as a permanent reference. Lofting theory and process will be discussed in the classroom with a GLBBS instructor and then practiced on the individual lofting boards. This will be a quick-paced class where you will learn:
Lofting Theory
How to Read Plans
Drawing the Grid
Lofting Techniques
Laying Down the Lines
AUGUST 27-28-29 TUITION $450
ADVANCED LOFTING TECHNIQUES - THE DEVELOPMENTS
After the boat builder has laid down the lines that define the shape of the hull, he can further develop the shapes and scantlings of the individual parts that form the structure of the boat. Almost all parts of the boat can and should be lofted to ensure that the construction proceeds efficiently. This class is open to participants in the Introduction to Lofting class, or anyone with lofting experience who may want to learn advanced techniques. In this three-day class we will continue with discussion and practice of the lofting process with developments that include:
Mold Bevels
Plank and Frame Reductions
Stem Sections
Rabbet Development
Transom Expansion
SEPTEMBER 4-5-6 TUITION $ 450
Note: A tuition discount of $50 will be given for a second class taken in this series.
