Programs

The Great Lakes Boat Building School is a licensed proprietary school in the state of Michigan, offering both one- and two-year, nine-month programs designed for students interested in pursuing a career in the boat building and restoration industries. The first year program provides a comprehensive course of study in the methods and materials required of today’s wooden boat builder.  It includes classes in hand and power woodworking, basic design, lapstrake and carvel construction methods, restoration and repair, and the use of modern materials and techniques such as cold molding. The second year is based on career building, involving yacht joinery and wood composite building.  Please click on links at left to view and print the 2011-2012 course and enrollment information. You may also contact us at 906.484.1081 or info@greatlakesboatbuilding.org, and we'll be glad to mail a catalog to you and answer further questions.
